Douglas Lechinsky

A Brief History

I got my first drum set at the age of thirteen, when it occurred to my observant father that I was wearing the knees out of too many pairs of pants crouching by the family HIFI all day, hammering out drums on my legs to my favorite songs...

From then on I was hooked, and along with taking formal lessons, I fanatically practiced, playing along to albums of my favorite bands (and drummers), such as Led Zeppelin, Yes, Rush and Genesis. Later on, I discovered the music of Jeff Beck, with drummers Narada Michael Walden and Simon Phillips.

Learning the parts note for note was mandatory for myself and my peers. Always striving to push our limits, and play stuff that challenged us musically. It was a good foundation to start with, and it gave me the skills I needed to pursue a lot of gigs later on.

I have played, recorded, and toured with a diversity of bands and artists over the last two and a half decades, covering many genres and styles. During that time I attended PIT in Los Angeles. It was a great experience, exposing me to some great teachers and players, and different styles like big band and latin, which, until then I hadn't fully considered.

I consider myself first and foremost a rock drummer. Striving to serve the music from a melodic approach, but always keeping in mind the concepts and principles of ensemble. Playing behind as many fine musicians as I have had the fortune, it has been the most valuable education I could ask for.
